CFS Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS)
Christian Fellowship High School Chapter of the National Honor Society
The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in response to a growing movement to emphasize athletic and strictly academic activities. This emphasis was seen as damaging to programs intended to develop leadership and character.
There were other organizations of the time that required members to demonstrate high standards of citizenship, leadership and/or scholarship. However, until the establishment of the National Honor Society there was no national organization whose objective was to influence the nation’s secondary school students in the following ways:
- to create an enthusiasm for scholarship,
- to stimulate a desire to render service,
- to promote worthy leadership, and
- to encourage the development of character
Since its inception the Society has grown to over 16,000 chapters nationwide. Each chapter is charged with advancing the ideals of the Society in its own school. The Department of Student Activities of the National Association of Secondary School Principals is responsible for the National Convention, the selection of the recipients of the National Honor Society Scholarship Awards, leadership training for adults and students through National Leadership Camps, and numerous scholarship and awards programs. Christian Fellowship School received its charter in September 2004.
