Selection to Membership
Members of the National Honor Society are selected from the sophmore, junior and senior classes on the basis of their adherence to the ideals of the society.
At the end of the first semester of each school year the administrator will forward to the NHS Chapter Advisor a list of all sophmores, juniors and seniors and their cumulative GPA. The chapter advisor will then invite all sophmores, juniors, and seniors who possess a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, and who are not already members of NHS, to submit evidence of leadership and service in support of their candidacy for induction into the National Honor Society.
The Chapter Advisor will present all evidence submitted by each candidate to the Faculty Council. After reviewing the evidence submitted and discussion the Faculty Council will vote whether to select or not select each candidate for induction. The Chapter Advisor will be an ex officio member of the Faculty Council and will not vote.
The Chapter Advisor will inform each candidate of the Faculty Council's decision. Those who are not selected will be encouraged to continue to grow in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character; and to respond to any future invitation for candidacy for membership in NHS.
Students who are selected for membership will be provided with additional information regarding the obligations of membership in the society and asked to accept or decline this honor. Declining induction will not affect an individual’s future consideration for candidacy. Students who accept will be provided information regarding the induction ceremony and a formal invitation will be sent to the inductee's parents.
