Students Achieving Distinction

Fall 2007

Jeff Boyd and Joe Cherri were selected to attend Missouri Boys State this past summer. Missouri Boys State selects boys who have just completed their junior year of high school to attend a week-long experience on the campus of Central Missouri Sate University at Warrensburg. Participants gain valuable experience in government by participating in the formation of the government of a fictitious state. Missouri Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and contributing organizations.

Spring 2007

Benjamin Heider has been selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy. Each summer the state of Missouri invites 330 of its brighest future high school juniors to a three-week academy on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Each student participates in two courses, a major and a minor, choosen from a variety of disciplines. In addition to their majors and minors students participate in wide array of activities in the afternoon and evening. Congratulations Benhamin!

Emily Richens, a part-time student at CFS, has been selected as a National Merit Scholar Finalist. Fifteen thousand National Merit Scholar Finalists are selected from the 1.4 million students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in their junior year.

Summer 2006

Katie Moe has been selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy. Nathan Redelfs has been selected to attend the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. The Academy is held on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield and invites some of the most artistically gifted sophomores and juniors from Missouri high schools. Students study the arts in both an interdisciplinary format and a traditional format in their area of greatest talent. Congratulations Nathan!

Rachel Duker has been selected to attend Missouri Girls State this summer. Missouri Girls State selects girls who have just completed their junior year of high school to attend a week-long experience on the campus of Central Missouri Sate University at Warrensburg. Participants gain valuable experience in government by participating in the formation of the government of a fictitious state. Missouri Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and contributing organizations.

Whitney Hamilton has been selected to attend Missouri Business Week this summer. Missouri Business Week gives 200 high school students the opportunity to explore the world of business by managing a fictitious manufacturing company. Students gain experience in management and marketing as they interact with business professionals and direct their own companies. Missouri Business Week is sponsored by the CENTER for Education & Private Enterprise and is held on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

September 2005

Andrew Clark and Melissa Moe, class of 2005, have been named AP Scholars with Honors in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) Exams.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

Andrew and Melissa qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or high on four or more of these exams. Both Andrew and Melissa took exams in the areas of Biology, Calculus, Physics and US History.

Congratulations to senior Sam Spencer for being named a Commended Student in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are being recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test.
